Faith - Junior My Promise, My Faith Pins - Year 1 & 2
Junior Girl Scouts can earn the My Promise, My Faith Pin in both years 1 & 2.
Girl Scout Sunday and Sabbath occur during Girl Scout week. Girl Scout Week is March 10 – March 16, 2013. Girl Scout Week begins on Sunday and concludes on the following Saturday. Some religions observe Girl Scout Sunday on the Sunday beginning Girl Scout Week, while other religions observe the Girl Scout Sabbath on the Friday or Saturday ending Girl Scout week. This arrangement allows our membership of diverse faiths to celebrate on their chosen day of worship.
The purpose of this special day is to emphasize the importance of the Girl Scout Promise:
On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scout Sunday and Sabbath provides a time for Girl Scouts to reflect upon the importance of the words, “to serve God”.
Individual girls from any religious background may now choose to earn this new award. Faith organizations provided valuable guidance in its creation, ensuring that girls of all faiths can earn the pin. These organizations view it as a significant award that complements the current religious recognitions P.R.A.Y. offers, and Requirement #5 “Keep the connection strong” instructs girls to “find out if your faith community offers a recognition program for Girl Scouts.”
Girls can earn this award each year they participate in Girl Scouts.
Here is an outline of the basic steps a girl must follow to complete the award:
1. Pick a line from the Girl Scout Law.
2. Interview a woman in your own or another faith-based community.
3. Find three inspirational quotes by women that fit with that line of the Girl Scout Law.
4. Make something, like a drawing, painting, or poster.
5. Keeping the connection strong.
The complete requirements are listed in the PDF entitled "mpmfjuniorawared" that you can download below.
